This project, built in a desert climate, encloses three ice rinks, includes the use of natural daylighting, and uses 36 percent less energy than a standard ice rink. The jury was impressed by the highly insightful analysis of the functions that the building contains. In addition, they appreciated the complete and innovative approach to maintaining the building's energy efficiency. "This project included a throughout evaluation of standard practices and some very solid engineering," the jury commented. "The design team didn't overlook anything in their energy-efficient approach to enclosing is complex function."
