The ground-floor storefronts alternate in scale with planters and benches to encourage a lively streetscape. This project posed signifi cant engineering challenges with up to 55’ of shoring including double and triple rows of rakers. The higher than usual parking rates required by its entitlements, in combination with a rigid height limit set by the specific plan, made building into the hillside a signifi cant challenge in terms of engineering and coordination. This project was honored by the City of Los Angeles Livable Streets Program.
